Nomads to use 2 home grounds

FDH Bank Premiership champions Mighty Wanderers have said they will be using two home matches—Zomba Stadium and Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre.

The Nomads chose Zomba Stadium as their home benue and signed an agreement with Zomba City Coincil to that effect.

But last week, they hosted Lilongwe-based Creck Sporting Club at Mpira Stadium and their upcoming FDH Premiership home game against Ekhaya FC has is slated for the same venue.

But in an interview yesterday, the club’s director of football David Kanyenda said:  “We have two home grounds at the moment namely Mpora and Zomba stadiums.

“We can alternate and play at either venue depending on technical assessments, recommendations and availability.”

Another Blantyre-based outfit FCB Nyasa Bullets last week announced that they will take a break from Joyce Chitsulo Stadium in Mwanza and play some of their home matches at Mpira Stadium to give their fans a chance to watch their team.

The two teams chouse alternative venues following Football Association of Malawi’s determination that their traditional home, Kamuzu Stadium, is not fit to host elite matches.

In an interview yesterday, Bullets chief executive officer Albert Chigoga said: “Our Blantyre-based fans have not been able to watch their team since the season started. So, we have decided to give them a chance.”

However, Chigoga said they have not completely abandoned Joyce Chitsulo Stadium.

“What it means is that we will play some matches at Joyce Chitsulo Stadium and others at Mpira Stadium,” he said.

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) general secretary Williams Banda said the clubs are free to change where they want to play their home matches as long as it done within the stipulated 48 hours before the fixture rule.
